The WHA is Going Smoke-Free

no-smoking-signOn Thursday May 19th, 2016 the Watertown Housing Authority (WHA) Board of Commissioners approved a Smoke Free Policy.  This policy is being mandated by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).  The policy will become effective August 1st, 2016.  There will be no smoking allowed in any of the WHA facilities or within 25 feet of the building.

Currently, the Executive Director has opened a 60 day comment period for all sites.  In addition, the WHA will be offering “Chatterbox” sessions to answer any questions and provide smoking cessation materials.  The first chatterbox will be on July 7th at Maywood community room at 2:00 p.m.  The second chatterbox is on July 8th at the Meadowbrook community room at 2:00 p.m.  The WHA wants to make sure that all residents have the opportunity to voice their concerns and have their questions addressed.    For all new and existing residents, the Occupancy Department will be completing lease addendums to incorporate the new Smoke Free Policy.

If anyone is interested in learning more about the adverse effects of smoking or wants smoking cessation materials, please contact the Tenant Relations Coordinator at (315) 782-1251 ext. 230.
