WATERTOWN — Local teen swimmers will help lead the United Way of Northern New York’s second annual Over the Edge.
Four members of the Watertown Family YMCA’s Blue Sharks swim team have been selected to be honorary “Edge Leaders” and will rappel 115 feet down Midtown Towers to kick off the event. The fundraiser will be held June 16 and 17 and allow 90 people to join the rappelling.
“The Blue Sharks are one of the nation’s top YMCA swim programs,” United Way CEO Robert D. Gorman wrote in a public statement. “The connection to the United Way is apropos. Part of the money the United Way raises every year pays for swim lessons for kids whose families can’t afford to join the Y. The Sharks swim for fun and competition, but every kid who learns how to swim makes our entire community that much safer.”
The Blue Shark Edge Leaders, Brooke Peters, Connor Way, Edward Gaus and Caleb Way, will rappel down Midtown Towers about 4 p.m. on June 16.
